Egypt Railway is the first railway to be built in Africa and the Middle East and the second worldwide after the United Kingdom, which began in 1834. The railway lines were extended to the Suez/Alexandria Line, but work was suspended due to several political matters; The first railway line in Egypt between Cairo and Alexandria was then extended under Khedive Abbas I of Egypt, who ruled Egypt in 1848, the purpose of the extension of railways in Egypt was to facilitate and speed up mail and passenger transport between Europe, particularly England, and India, England’s largest colony in the East, which was launched in 1852 and completed in 1856. After two years, the second line was established between Cairo and Suez, then the Cairo/ Port Said line began after another two years, and in 1898 the third rail line started from Cairo to Luxor.

After the revolution of 23 July 1952, the government was concerned with the development of those lines. The railroad lines were renovated and maintained, the fleet of mobile units was developed, and performance efficiency and safety standards were upgraded by the development of electrical signals and central controls.
