Al-Bayan Center for Planning and Studies, based in Baghdad, held its third symposium, entitled “Upcoming parliamentary elections: Options for Participation and Boycott” In the presence of Fadi Alshamri, member of the National Wisdom Movement political bureau, and Dr. Ayad Anber, academic and political activist.

Speaking at the symposium, Fadi Alshamri said that “the development, maturity or even change of the existing political equation depends on active participation in the early elections without any inaction. Boycotting means the return of the same ruling forces, with greater legitimacy and momentum, and will then not accept any prejudice to that legitimacy as it did in 2018 and the October’s demonstrations and their repercussions.”

In his intervention at the symposium, Dr. Ayad Anber stated that “early elections have three political ties; The former rejects it but does not state it. This rejection may bring together many Shias, Sunni, and Kurdish political forces that strongly support and participate in Al-Kadhimi’s government. The second is seen as an opportunity to assert its ability to mobilize its electoral audience and maybe an opportunity to increase its parliamentary seats, a situation that brings together the Sadrist Movement and some politicians who had a strong and active presence in the days of the demonstrations. The third political will believes that early elections will not change the reality of political powers.
