Al-Bayan Center Hosts Head of the Executive Apparatus of the Media and Communications Commission in Dialogue Session on the Reality of Media

Al-Bayan Center for Studies and Planning held a dialogue session entitled “Media and Communications in Iraq: From Managing the Present to Shaping the Future,” hosting the Head of the Executive Apparatus of the Media and Communications Commission, Baligh Abu Kalal, to discuss the reality of the digital sector and the regulatory and investment challenges in the country.

The session highlighted the strategic importance of activating “Starlink” satellite internet services in Iraq, and how this step contributed to raising the reliability of the communications infrastructure, thus providing a safe and stimulating environment that encouraged major international companies to inject their investments into the Iraqi market.

Meanwhile, the session addressed the nature of the work of the Media and Communications Commission and the regulations it issues to control the media and digital landscape. Abu Kalal explained the mechanisms adopted for imposing penalties and financial fines on violating entities, emphasizing that these measures aim to enforce the law and ensure adherence to professional and ethical standards.

The session also reviewed the mechanism by which the Commission deals with fake pages and electronic armies, and the importance of coordination between regulatory and security institutions to reduce misleading campaigns.
