Al-Bayan Center Holds Dialogue Seminar to Discuss Challenges and Opportunities of the Al-Zaydi Government

Al-Bayan Center for Studies and Planning held an extensive dialogue seminar entitled “The Al-Zaydi Government: Recurring Challenges and Expected Opportunities,” which witnessed an elite attendance of politicians, academics, researchers, and media professionals. The seminar featured comprehensive discussions on the nature of the current political phase and the anticipated paths of the government in confronting structural crises.

The Center hosted the following speakers at this seminar:
Dr. Fadi Al-Shammari, leading figure and member of the Political Bureau of the Hikma Movement and Advisor to the Prime Minister
Mr. Mahmoud Al-Rubaie, leading figure and member of the Political Bureau of the Sadiqoun Movement and member of the Board of Commissioners of the Media and Communications Commission
Ms. Alaa Al-Talabani, Iraqi politician and former Member of Parliament
Mr. Aqeel Al-Turaihi, politician and former Governor of Karbala

Dr. Fadi Al-Shammari emphasized a set of internal complexities that urgently require radical solutions so that the government can succeed and proceed with achieving its programs. These include the issue of corruption, restricting weapons to the state, and the institutional management of the state, in addition to external challenges, particularly regarding the nature of Iraq’s relations with its neighbors, which will have a significant impact on this success.

Ms. Alaa Al-Talabani stressed that the Kurdish card was absent from previous governments, and Kurdish demands were similarly sidelined and replaced by narrow demands and interests, calling on the Al-Zaydi government to find appropriate solutions to them. For his part, Mr. Aqeel Al-Turaihi explained that there are strategic challenges facing the Iraqi state, and these challenges must be transformed into fundamental programs for nation-building.

In a related context, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Rubaie pointed out that “we are facing a form of system that is unique in the region,” noting at the same time that there are attempts to frustrate the Iraqi experience by parties that fear the success of this experience.
